Pordoi Pass

The Pordoi Pass is a 2.230 m high alpine mountain pass situated between two spectacular Dolomites groups: the Sella group and Marmolada group. The pass serves as a bridge between the two most famous skiing stations of the DolomitiSuperSki resort: Canazei in Trentino region and Arabba in Belluno province. The surrounding area in fact is full of skiing stations and slopes. Among them the most famous one is Sellaronda.
The pass is crossed by the cycling route Alta via nr. 2 that departs from Bressanone and arrives to Feltre and that has been more than once an arrival point during Giro d'Italia competition. Moreover, it entered the history of Giro d'Italia in 1965 by including in the circuit Cima Coppi (on the pass there is also a monument to Fauso Coppi) as it has been the highest route for 13 years.
Another spectacular point of interest is the Sass Pordoi rope way that goes up from Sass Pordoi. 900 meters of hight difference in only 4 minutes.
Sass Pordoi is also well known as "Dolomites terrace" and is situated at a hight of 2950 m. in the mountaineering world it is known for its historical climbing paths as "via Maria" for instance, that has been discovered in the 30s by a guide called Tita Piaz. From the peak with a 1hours walk you can reach Piz Boè, 3152 m a.s.l. This is also considered as the highest peak from the whole Sella group.
