Valle del Contrin (Contrin valley)
Contrin valley extends in South-Eastern direction from Alba di Canazei. Here you can admire rocky mountains of Gran Vernel (3210 m), Colac (2715 m) and the group of Ombretta-Vernale (3058 m). At the top of the valley you'll see the passes of Pasché Pass (2498 m) and Cirele Pass (2683 m). The Contrin Valley is entirely traversed as well by Ruf de Contrin river that springs from Sasso Vernale snow-fields.
From Alba di Canazei you can walk up through the woods and slopes till you reach a long plateau. Now the wood becomes rare and so you will have in front of you large meadows that go down from the lateral sides towards the gravelly flow of the Ruf de Contrin river.
Let's see what we have here: on the West from Contrin valley you can admire the rocky wall of Colac (2715 m); on the South the valley is closed by Col Ombert (2670 m) that dominates S. Nicolò valley as well and by the rocky slab of Lasté de Contrin. To the East from Grand Vernel group and precisely with Sas dal Pegorèr (2836 m), la Pela de Vernel (3029 m) and Punta de Cornates (3210 m). The South-Eastern part is delimited by Ombretta Vernale Group: Pas de Ombreta (2702 m), Ombreta's peaks (3011 m), Sas Vernel (3058), Ombretola Pas (2864 m) and afterwards opens to Ombretta valley and Malga Ciapela (Belluno province). Palon de Jigolé (2815 m) and Ponte Ciadine (2869 m), theater of tough combats during the Big War, later come to join themselves with Lasté de Contrin. The Contrin valley during summer time is full of mountaineers or simply people that enjoy walking and searching for astonishing views. If you are looking for some peacefulness don't hesitate to come and explore the meadows of the high valley thus to the Contrin refuge there's always lots pf people.
